Activities and projects (cont.)

Scholastic Reinforcement

This program is directed at children between 6 and 14 years of age. Monday through Friday, IdukayPerú volunteers are available to help students with their schoolwork. Children are also provided with supplementary educational materials.

This extra attention benefits children academically, and also gives parents and caretakers the chance to monitor their physical and emotional well-being.

Feed a Child

Most parents do not have the employment opportunities necessary to support themselves and their families; their jobs are temporary, and some days there is no work to be found. Some make money recycling plastic, paper, etc. Others might sell candy as informal street vendors.

Many children go an entire day without eating, or otherwise get by on one meal.

With the help of its volunteers in Peru and overseas, IdukayPerú is working to make up for these deficiencies. We have devised a dietary foundation that is rich in energy, proteins, and vitamins.

We must adjust our nutritional assistance plan according to the resources available to our organization at any given moment. This is one of our principal motivations for seeking permanent funding—to establish an ongoing, consistent dietary program.

IdukayPerú is typically able to provide three lunches a week, and breakfast on Saturdays.

For one euro, you can feed a child, and help put a smile on his or her face—and yours.

Make a Friend

This is a project to connect kids in Peru with their peers in other countries around the world, thereby establishing a mutually beneficial and enriching cultural exchange.

IdukayPerú is seeking pen pals for children between 9 and 15 years of age.  Through this program we hope to awaken their desire to learn more about different cultures and ways of life. We want to engage their curiosity and, in this way, give them a broader view of the world.

Building Peru

As an organization dedicated to bettering the lives of those most in need, IdukayPerú also has a construction program. We don’t build large buildings. To date, we have built several small but vital structures. For instance, we constructed new bathrooms for the school, replacing the unsanitary outhouse once served 200 children.

And so our work begins.  IdukayPerú has also added height to the walls surrounding the Belaunde Terry school, constructed “la Casita de Esperanza” (House of Hope), and worked to reconstruct houses in the wake of the earthquake of 2006.

These construction projects have been accomplished thanks to the hard work of the community and the financial assistance of friends and volunteers.  We are currently planning several more ambitious projects, including a small health clinic and a school in the area known as “200 Millas” (200 Miles) near Fertiza.
