Volunteering (1)

Discover the world of volunteer work, see some examples of what volunteers do, and learn what you can do to help!

Our volunteer program gives international visitors to Peru the opportunity to apply their time, energy, and talents towards improving the quality of life of those who need it the most.

IdukayPerú understands that the best way of helping others is to draw on a broad range of experience and skills, integrating the assets of individual volunteers into the collective knowledge base of the group.  Therefore, we firmly believe that the support of our volunteers is not only helpful, but also vitally necessary to carrying out our work.

Yes, YOU can help!  Through this program, you can harness your commitment to change to achieve a tremendous amount of good.  Through your willingness to learn and to teach, to give and to receive, you can put into practice our philosophy of “helping to help” those in need.

All volunteers contribute in some way to each of our projects, many of them offering up advice and expertise from their chosen field of work.  We want volunteers to benefit from this experience as much as the people they are helping, by loving what they do and by doing it well.

New participants in the volunteer program will be greeted with warmth and hospitality.  From the first moment of their stay, volunteers are made to feel like part of the family.

Where volunteers live

Volunteers are housed in the residence of the director, in the constitutional province Callao, where there are fully furnished rooms, Internet, etc.  Housing is free, but we ask that volunteers contribute what they can towards the purchase of food.  There is ample space to accommodate everyone; depending on the number of volunteers, some rooms may be shared.  It is not necessary to bring sleeping bags, blankets, or sheets.  There are two bathrooms, and a living room in which to relax and hold meetings.  Volunteers will have everything they need to feel at home.

Experiences of previous volunteers

Juanfer Roldan, 25 years old, of Badajoz, was with us for two and a half months (November to January 2006).  He worked in both Pachacutec (in Ventanilla) and Fertiza (in Callao).

Juanfer was very active in the area of education, and helped IdukayPerú develop its educational programs. He assisted with after-school classes, staged theatre productions, and taught children how to juggle.

Mónica Álvarez Giralte, from the Basque Country of Spain, was in Callao from December until January.

She helped with after-school classes, and also supported IdukayPerú in its effort to celebrate the holidays in 200 Millas, Pachacutec, and Fertiza.  She quickly became an integral part of the team, and we await her swift return.

Elisabet Diez, 24 years old, of Granollers, Barcelona, volunteered during August and September of 2006.  She worked in Pachacutec and Fertiza.

Elisabet helped IdukayPerú achieve the important milestone of becoming a government-recognized organization.  She contributed to our regular projects in the Lima/Callao area, and also organized several fund-raising events in Barcelona.

Elisabet Bagaria, 27 years old, of Vic, Barcelona, was with us between September and October of 2006.   She worked in Pachacutec and Fertiza.

Elisabet helped sporadically with after-school classes.  Her main focus, however, was on the psychological wellbeing of children and parents.
